Exclusive—Najaf Seminary Reveals the Message Behind Latest Statement of Al-Sistani.

On Thursday, Islamic scholar and professor at the Shiite seminary in Najaf, Noor Al-Saadi, commented on the latest statement from the religious authority (Marja'iyya), revealing the intended message behind it.

Al-Saadi stated, “We share the supreme religious authority’s firm and unequivocal condemnation of the continued military aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran, and we strongly reject any threat targeting its top religious and political leadership.”

He added that, “Such aggressive acts violate all religious and moral standards, blatantly breach international norms and laws, and forewarn of dire consequences for the entire region.”

He continued, “We affirm what the Marja’iyya has warned about—that escalating the military conflict may lead to a total loss of control, widespread chaos, and increased suffering for the region’s people, severely harming everyone’s interests.”

Al-Saadi explained, “From this standpoint, we add our voice to the wise Marja’iyya’s call, urging all active international bodies and world nations—especially Islamic countries—to exert maximum efforts to stop this unjust war. We call for a fair and peaceful solution to the Iranian nuclear issue based on international law, aiming to achieve security and stability for all. That is the message the Grand Ayatollah sought to convey in his recent statement.”

Earlier on Thursday, the supreme religious authority for Shiites in Iraq, represented by Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, warned of the dangers of continued Israeli airstrikes on Iran. He called on international actors and world governments to intervene to stop “this war” and to seek a peaceful resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue.

In a statement issued by Sistani’s office, the religious authority “reaffirmed its strong condemnation of the ongoing military aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran and any threat targeting its top religious and political leadership.”

It warned that “such a criminal act—in addition to its blatant violation of religious and moral standards and international laws and norms—poses severe consequences for the entire region. It could lead to complete chaos and further suffering for its people, severely undermining everyone's interests.”

The statement urged “all active international bodies and world nations, particularly Islamic countries, to do their utmost to stop this unjust war and to find a fair and peaceful solution to the Iranian nuclear issue in accordance with international law.”
