Prime Minister and Commander‑in‑Chief of the Armed Forces Mohammed Shia al‑Sudani condemned the attack on the headquarters of the National Intelligence Service in the capital, Baghdad, describing the perpetrators as a “cowardly group" and urging political forces to take a “clear and explicit” stance regarding assaults on state institutions.

In remarks made during his visit to the agency’s headquarters, al‑Sudani instructed the relevant bodies within the intelligence service, in cooperation with other security agencies, to continue conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the “attack,” reveal the findings, and inform the public of the party responsible for this “disgraceful terrorist act,” stressing the need to “expose them without hesitation and bring them to justice.”

Al‑Sudani said, “Those who committed this treacherous crime are a cowardly group that has shed Iraqi blood and violated state institutions,” adding that “whoever dares to spill Iraqi blood does not represent Iraq, and no doctrine can justify such a crime. And if there is a doctrine behind it, it is undoubtedly distorted and destructive.”

He noted that “the government acts with wisdom and responsibility,” but added, "It will not stand idle in the face of a crime that spills Iraqi blood and violates the country’s supreme interests.”

On the political front, the Prime Minister called on Iraqi political forces to “fulfill their role and take a clear and explicit position on the attacks targeting the state and its institutions, which jeopardize the country’s future.”

He continued, “There are those who have given themselves the right to decide matters of war and peace, but we affirm that this decision belongs to the state alone, and it is the state that determines and protects Iraq’s interests.”

The National Intelligence Service had announced on Saturday morning that the vicinity of its headquarters had been targeted in a “terrorist” attack carried out by outlaws, resulting in the death of one of its officers. It confirmed that security forces have begun pursuing the perpetrators to bring them to justice.
