Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa al‑Sudani stated that Iraq is committed to preventing escalation and to ensuring that its territory is not used in any external or internal conflicts, emphasizing the need to preserve security and stability. He also chaired a meeting of the Ministerial Council for National Security, where he reviewed recent security developments and the economic risks arising from escalating regional conflicts.
The council stressed that while the state guarantees freedom of expression, the right to peaceful assembly, and the protection of citizens’ rights as fundamental rights ensured by Iraqi law and the constitution—and within the framework of applicable national laws—it also underscores the government’s commitment to preventing any targeting of diplomatic missions or harm to vital facilities. Security forces will continue to carry out their duties in protecting citizens, diplomatic missions, and public and private property, and in enforcing national laws in a manner consistent with Iraq’s international obligations.
The council affirmed that Iraq will remain committed to preventing escalation, ensuring that its territory is not used for any external or internal conflicts, and maintaining stability for its citizens and the region. It added that decisions related to national security, peace, and military movements fall exclusively under the authority of the state and its constitutional institutions.
