The Prime Minister, Mr. Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani, met on Wednesday evening (Baghdad time) with the President of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, on the sidelines of his participation in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During the meeting, he emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation across various sectors, advocating for political consultations and the formation of joint committees, as well as supporting investment and partnerships in all fields. He also extended an invitation to the Cypriot president to visit Iraq.
The Prime Minister highlighted the need for coordinating positions regarding the current escalation in Gaza and Lebanon, stressing the importance of Cyprus fulfilling its role as a member of the European Union and advocating for the respect of international laws that are being violated unprecedentedly, along with the disregard for UN resolutions that disrupt humanitarian commitments and norms.
For his part, the Cypriot president expressed his welcome and readiness to accept the invitation to visit Iraq. He and the Prime Minister exchanged views on ways to resolve the current crisis and prevent its escalation. He also expressed the readiness of Cypriot companies to operate in Iraq, as well as his country's willingness to cooperate in serving mutual interests and concerns.
