The head of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Agency, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Naeem Al-Aboudi, inaugurated today, Sunday, the irradiation cell (GC220), the first peaceful applications of nuclear energy in Iraq.
In his speech, which was followed by Al-Rabi'a, Al-Aboudi confirmed that "the operation of the (GC220) cell is the first strategic action after the pollution remediation carried out by national experts in Iraq." He noted that "this important radiation cell is used in medical fields for cancer treatment, medical examinations, industrial applications, sterilization of medical tools and food equipment, seed development, and the disposal of nuclear waste."
He added that "this scientific environment will be ready to welcome specialized researchers and graduate students from Iraqi universities to analyze samples for specialized research in various fields."
The head of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Agency reviewed "the operation of the (GC220) irradiation cell, models of radioactive materials, their fields of use, the radiation safety procedures in place, methods of radiation protection, and future development plans for radiation projects."
