A new survey conducted by Reuters-Ipsos reveals that a majority of American voters support Donald Trump's pledge to increase customs duties, especially on imports from China, a move that strengthens his economic edge over his competitor, Kamala Harris. The survey, which included 1,405 registered voters with a margin of error of 3 percentage points, indicated that 56% support imposing new 10% tariffs on all imports, and 60% specifically on Chinese goods. In contrast, 41% opposed this proposal.
The survey also showed that Trump has voter confidence when it comes to reducing the national debt, which stands at $35 trillion, despite warnings from independent economists that his policies could have negative effects. 37% of voters said Trump is better at handling debt compared to 30% who favor Harris.
Although Harris leads by 5 percentage points nationally, the election results will be significantly influenced by voting in the seven swing states, where the competition between the candidates is intense.
