As the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports continues, President Donald Trump on Thursday ordered the U.S. Navy to open fire on any boat that places mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz. He also noted that he has ordered mine-sweeping operations in the strait to be tripled.
Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social: "I have ordered the U.S. Navy to fire upon and destroy any boat—no matter how small (all of their navy’s 159 vessels are already at the bottom of the sea!)—that attempts to lay mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz. There must be no hesitation.’
He added: ‘In addition, our mine sweepers are currently clearing the strait, and I am hereby ordering their activity to be tripled!’”
