The website Axios reported on Monday that U.S. President Donald Trump is discussing with his team at the White House the possibility of renewing military operations against Iran.
Axios quoted an official in the Trump administration as saying that “the president and his team are currently discussing what the military campaign would look like if it resumes,” stressing that “we have not yet reached the stage of making a final decision between an agreement and resuming fighting.”
The official confirmed that “it is likely that Iran’s frozen funds will be released in exchange for an appropriate agreement,” noting that “the negotiations have ranged between preventing the production of a nuclear weapon, halting enrichment inside Iran, or freezing it temporarily.”
The official added, "We do not know who is in charge in Iran, and they do not know either—and this matter must be resolved.”
Earlier on Monday, international media outlets reported intensified diplomatic contacts aimed at reviving the negotiation track between Iran and the United States, scheduled for tomorrow, revealing that the Pakistani mediator warned President Donald Trump that the continued blockade in the Strait of Hormuz carries risks.
For its part, the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced earlier on Monday that “there is currently no plan to hold a second round of negotiations with Washington,” confirming that “the diplomatic process is facing major complications.”
