UAE Summons Iraqi Chargé d’Affaires in Protest Over “Faction” Attacks on Its Territory.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Wednesday that it had summoned the Iraqi chargé d’affaires in Abu Dhabi to protest the targeting of its territory by “Iraqi armed factions.”

Arab media outlets quoted a statement from the ministry saying:
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Omar Abdulmajid Hamid Al‑Obaidi, the chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in the UAE, handed him a strongly worded protest note, and conveyed the United Arab Emirates’ strongest condemnation and rejection of the continued sinful terrorist attacks launched from Iraqi territory by factions, militias, and armed groups loyal to the Islamic Republic of Iran, despite the announcement of a ceasefire.”

The ministry added that “these attacks targeted several vital facilities in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, in blatant violation of their sovereignty and airspace, and in clear breach of international law, international humanitarian law, and the UN Charter.”

The protest note, delivered by Ahmed Jumaa Al‑Marashda, Director of the Arab Affairs Department, stressed that “the continuation of these brutal attacks carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran and the terrorist attacks by its proxies against Gulf states and countries in the region threatens regional stability and undermines international efforts to enhance security and stability.”

It also noted that “these attacks place the existing relationship with the Republic of Iraq under extremely sensitive strain, negatively affecting ongoing cooperation and the fraternal ties between Iraq and the GCC states.”

The ministry emphasized “the necessity for the Iraqi government to immediately and unconditionally halt and prevent all hostile actions originating from its territory and directed at Gulf states and the region and to address and stop these threats and attacks urgently, responsibly, and in accordance with relevant international and regional laws and conventions.”

The statement added that “the protest note recalled UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), which was co‑sponsored by 136 countries, specifically its demand for the immediate and unconditional cessation of any provocation or threat against neighboring states, including the use of proxies.”

It reaffirmed “the importance of Iraq fulfilling its role in consolidating security and stability in the region, in a manner that preserves its sovereignty and strengthens its position as an active and responsible partner in its regional environment.”

Since the outbreak of the war between the United States and Israel on one side and Iran on the other, Iraqi armed resistance groups have announced rocket and drone attacks targeting Gulf states and what they describe as American interests in the Gulf and in Iraq, particularly in the Kurdistan Region.
