Preliminary Agreement Between Washington and Tehran to Extend the Ceasefire.

The Associated Press reported on Wednesday, citing official sources, that the United States and Iran have reached a preliminary agreement to extend the ceasefire, paving the way for discussions on a permanent peace framework that would end the consequences of the forty‑day military conflict in the region.

According to the agency, officials—who requested anonymity—said that “Washington and Tehran have given initial approval to extend the truce in order to give diplomatic efforts additional time to reach sustainable solutions.”

Both sides had announced on April 8 that they had agreed to a two‑week ceasefire, followed by a round of negotiations in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, though the talks ended without tangible results.

Although no official announcement has been made regarding the resumption of hostilities, the situation on the ground remains tense following the United States’ imposition of a naval blockade on Iranian ports — a development that makes extending the truce a critical step to prevent the region from sliding into a new round of confrontation.
