Iraq ranked 93rd globally in the 2026 Crime Index, dropping from its 2025 position of 89, according to Numbeo, a website that tracks living conditions around the world.
The site stated, in its statistics, that Iraq placed 93rd out of 148 countries in the 2026 Crime Index, scoring 40.5 out of 100.
It added that Papua New Guinea topped the global list with a score of 80.9, followed by Venezuela in second place with 80.4, Haiti in third with 80.1, Afghanistan in fourth with 74.8, and South Africa in fifth with 74.5, followed by Honduras in sixth with 71.9.
At the bottom of the list, the United Arab Emirates and Andorra ranked as the countries with the lowest crime levels, scoring 14 and 15.5, respectively.
In the Arab world, Syria ranked as the highest in crime and eighth globally with a score of 67.5, followed by Somalia in second place with 62.5, Yemen with 61.7, Libya in fourth with 55.8, Algeria in fifth with 53, Morocco in sixth with 47, Lebanon in seventh with 46.9, and Egypt in eighth with 46.4.
