Trump Renews Attack on the Supreme Court and Threatens Stronger and Harsher Tariffs.

U.S. President Donald Trump criticized the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the sweeping tariffs he had imposed, vowing to use other authorities to introduce new tariffs that would be “stronger and harsher.” Trump raised temporary tariffs on all U.S. imports from every country to 15%, the maximum allowed by law. The decision triggered declines in stock futures and the U.S. dollar. It also affects trade relations with China, the European Union, and India.

Trump used a post on Truth Social to criticize the justices—including those he appointed—while the Court reaffirmed its authority to limit presidential powers.

In his post, Trump wrote that “the Court also approved all the other tariffs, and there are many, and they can all be used, with legal guarantee, in a stronger and harsher way than the previous tariffs.”

Last Saturday, Trump confirmed he would raise temporary tariffs from 10% to 15% on U.S. imports from all countries—the maximum permitted by law—one day after the Court ruled that he had exceeded his presidential authority when he imposed a set of high tariffs under the Economic Emergency Act.

Wall Street futures and the dollar fell early in the day amid confusion over U.S. trade policy, while oil prices initially dropped due to uncertainty about global growth and fuel demand following the latest tariff increase, then stabilized after news of planned U.S.–Iran talks.

The Court’s decision and Trump’s subsequent actions are already affecting trade agreements he concluded last year. China is urging Washington to lift tariffs, the European Union is preparing to freeze its agreement, and India is postponing scheduled talks.

Trump used his post to renew criticism of the justices who issued the ruling, including two he appointed during his first term.

In its ruling, written by conservative Chief Justice John Roberts, the Supreme Court reaffirmed its authority to oversee presidential powers.

Trump sharply criticized the Court’s recent decision to overturn the tariffs, calling it “very disappointing” and “ridiculous,” while insisting he still has alternative options.
