Iraq Again Stresses the Need to Withdraw Foreign Nationals from Prisons.

Qasim al-Araji, Iraq’s National Security Advisor, reaffirmed the necessity of withdrawing foreign nationals from prisons, with an emphasis on strengthening international cooperation to confront terrorism. He also noted the ongoing transfer of Iraqi citizens from al-Hol camp, as well as the transfer of ISIS detainees from Syria, in batches initiated by U.S. forces.

Al-Araji stressed that Baghdad is urging countries to withdraw their nationals from prisons, emphasizing that enhancing international coordination and unifying the stance of the international community represent a fundamental pillar for supporting security and stability, combating terrorism, and rejecting extremism in all its forms.

He further explained in a post published on his official account on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter) on Thursday that during his meeting with Ralph Schroeder, Head of the EU Advisory Mission in Iraq, he underlined the importance of advancing through diplomatic channels to strengthen international coordination.

At the same time, he emphasized Iraq’s continued efforts to complete the transfer of the last group of its citizens from Syria’s al-Hol camp, while pursuing initiatives aimed at rehabilitating and reintegrating them into society.

It is worth noting that Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, two days earlier on Tuesday, called on the international community and world countries to shoulder their legal and security responsibilities and to take back ISIS members who hold their nationalities.
