the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its condemnation of Israel's recognition of "Somaliland," reaffirming Iraq's steadfast position on respecting the sovereignty and national unity of states.
In an official statement, the ministry declared, "The Republic of Iraq strongly condemns the Israeli entity’s recognition of what is called 'Somaliland.' This action constitutes a blatant violation of state sovereignty and a clear breach of the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter."
The statement added that "Iraq, in its capacity as the current chair of the Arab League, affirms that the declaration by the occupying entity represents a clear infringement on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the sisterly Republic of Somalia and undermines efforts to maintain security and stability in the region."
It continued: "The Republic of Iraq views such illegitimate steps as a direct threat to the stability of the Horn of Africa and as contributing to the complexity of regional dynamics and the escalation of tensions, with negative repercussions on international peace and security."
The ministry reiterated Iraq’s unwavering stance in support of respecting the sovereignty and national unity of states and its total rejection of any attempts to impose a de facto reality that contradicts national will.
Finally, the ministry called on the international community and regional and international organizations to "assume their legal and moral responsibilities and take a clear stance against these illegal practices in order to uphold international legitimacy and protect the sovereignty of member states."
