Coordination Framework Sets Two-Week Deadline to Finalize Prime Minister Nominee.

The "Victory" Coalition, led by Haider al-Abadi, announced on Monday that the Shiite Coordination Framework is expected to name the next Prime Minister within two weeks.

Coalition spokesperson Aqil al-Rudaini stated that while the Coordination Framework’s meeting scheduled for this evening will not finalize the prime minister nomination, the matter will be resolved definitively within a maximum of two weeks. He emphasized the Framework’s commitment to adhering to constitutional deadlines and forming a government within those timeframes, noting that the current phase requires naming the Speakers of Parliament and the President.

Al-Rudaini added that the coming days will witness intensified political activity among all parties to settle key appointments.

In the same context, MP Ibtisam al-Hilali from the State of Law Coalition said that the Coordination Framework’s leadership will meet this evening to discuss several issues, most notably the nomination for Prime Minister.

Speaking to Shafaq News Agency, al-Hilali explained that the meeting will also address the Framework’s and other political forces’ efforts to nominate candidates for the Speaker of Parliament and the Presidency, following the Federal Supreme Court’s ratification of the final election results and the push to convene the first parliamentary session.

She added that the meeting will also review the names of candidates for the prime minister post, noting that five individuals are considered frontrunners—most notably State of Law Coalition leader Nouri al-Maliki.

Iraq’s Federal Supreme Court, the country’s highest judicial authority, ratified the final results of the general parliamentary elections on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
