Pope Leo XIV met with leaders of the Islamic and Druze communities in Lebanon.
The meeting included:
- His Eminence Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic
- His Eminence Sheikh Ali Al-Khatib, Vice President of the Higher Islamic Shiite Council
- His Eminence Sheikh Ali Qaddour, President of the Alawite Islamic Council
- His Eminence Sheikh Sami Abil-Mona, Spiritual Leader (Sheikh Aql) of the Druze Community
The discussions focused on the strength of the cordial relations among Lebanon’s various religious sects. All participants expressed their hope for preserving pluralism and coexistence, which form a unique and distinctive fabric of Lebanese society. They also called for an end to violence that disrupts the peace of communities and threatens life in the country. The meeting was marked by a friendly and harmonious atmosphere and lasted approximately thirty minutes.
