On Monday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that Iran and Saudi Arabia are working to strengthen regional cooperation while condemning U.S. policies that threaten international peace.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani stated during a press conference that the visit of the Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister to Tehran is a continuation of the process that began nearly two years ago with the improvement of relations between Tehran and Riyadh. He noted that the visit is part of an ongoing framework of communication and consultations at various levels.
Kanaani added that the meetings focused on bilateral relations and discussed key regional issues, including developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, Lebanon, and Syria. He emphasized that both countries aim to build trust, expand regional understanding, and enhance stability and security in West Asia.
Regarding Lebanon, the spokesperson stressed that allegations of Iranian interference in Lebanon’s internal affairs are baseless, asserting that Lebanese issues are for the Lebanese people to resolve. He pointed out that Iran is aware of the difficult circumstances Lebanon faces due to its proximity to the occupying entity and its daily aggressions, and that Iran has always expressed solidarity with the country.
He added that Iran’s support for the Lebanese resistance and Lebanon’s right to self-defense falls within the framework recognized by all United Nations member states. He claimed that actual interference in Lebanon comes from other parties that impose their will on various Lebanese groups through threats and force.
Kanaani also reaffirmed Iran’s clear stance on its nuclear file, stating that the country’s nuclear activities are conducted under internationally recognized rights in accordance with international law and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), to which Iran is a signatory. He added that concerns over Iran’s nuclear program were unfounded from the beginning and that talk of a “deadlock” is baseless. The main issue, he argued, lies in the pressure-based policies of certain parties.
He emphasized that a real solution can be achieved when these countries recognize Iran’s rights under the NPT and refrain from interference and imposing unlawful demands. He reiterated Iran’s commitment to its obligations as a treaty member while exercising its legal rights.
In another context, the spokesperson stressed that the United States poses a threat to international peace and security, pointing to increasing violations of international law by Washington in various parts of the world through policies based on threats and the use of force against countries like Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua, as well as its interventions in Brazil and Mexico.
He asserted that the U.S.’s full support for the Israeli entity effectively makes it a partner in violating the sovereignty of nations and committing widespread crimes, calling on the UN Security Council to treat these actions as serious violations of international peace and security.
