Egypt Calls for Launching a Comprehensive Political Process to Preserve the Unity of Sudan.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty emphasized on Saturday the importance of a ceasefire and creating conditions for launching a comprehensive political process that preserves Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and stability.

This came during a phone call between Minister Abdelatty and Masad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the U.S. President for Arab and African Affairs, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The call addressed developments in Sudan, where Abdelatty referred to the outcomes of his recent visit to Khartoum last Tuesday. He condemned the atrocities and horrific violations witnessed in the city of El Fasher, calling for intensified regional and international efforts to support the Sudanese people and bolster their national institutions.

Abdelatty also highlighted how important it is to follow all parts of the Quartet Statement on Sudan, which includes creating a complete humanitarian ceasefire as a first step towards starting a lasting political process that keeps the Sudanese state and its institutions united.

The conversation also covered the situation in the Great Lakes region. Abdelatty affirmed Egypt’s readiness to engage in all regional and international efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive settlement to the conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. He expressed Egypt’s full support for the ongoing U.S.-led mediation efforts in Doha, describing them as a significant step toward restoring stability in the region and fulfilling the aspirations of African peoples for peace and prosperity.
