The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani’s participation in the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit was based on an official invitation from the U.S. President and the Egyptian President.
A statement from the ministry said:
"Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani is participating in the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, heading the delegation of the Republic of Iraq at the summit held today in Sharm El-Sheikh, the Arab Republic of Egypt, alongside Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein."
It added:
"This participation comes in response to a joint invitation from the governments of the United States of America and the Arab Republic of Egypt to discuss regional and international efforts aimed at ending the war in Gaza, achieving a permanent ceasefire, ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians, and launching a political process that contributes to establishing security and stability in the region."
The statement also noted:
"Leaders and nations from the region and the world will attend the summit to improve regional and global security."
