Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa reaffirmed Syria's no longer isolation from the world, highlighting the significance of national unity among the Syrian people.
Speaking during the “Loyalty to Idlib” campaign, al-Sharaa stated:
“The unity of the Syrian people is an unavoidable duty. It is the foundation for rebuilding a new Syria in which all its sons and daughters participate without discrimination,” according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
He added:
“I met with senior world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly and witnessed respect and appreciation for what you have accomplished.”
He continued:
“Syria is no longer isolated from the world. It has reconnected what was severed and proven its ability to contribute significantly.”
Al-Sharaa pointed out that:
“Lifting sanctions is not an end in itself, but a means to serve the people, attract investment, improve the economy, develop infrastructure, and create job opportunities to rebuild the country from within.”
It is worth noting that President Trump signed an executive order last June ending the U.S. sanctions program on Syria. This move enables Syria to rejoin the international financial system and builds on Washington’s commitment to assist in reconstruction after a devastating civil war.
White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt explained at the time that the decision allows the U.S. to continue imposing sanctions on former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, his associates, human rights violators, drug traffickers, and individuals linked to chemical weapons activities, as well as ISIS and its affiliates and Iranian proxies.
