Khamenei After Sanctions Delay: Rejected—We Will Not Succumb to Pressure.

Following the UN Security Council’s rejection of a proposal to delay sanctions on Iran, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei expressed his country’s refusal to yield to external pressure.

On his personal account on the platform “X,” Khamenei wrote:

“The opposing party (referring to Washington) breaks promises in everything, lies in everything, and threatens militarily with deception at all times or without timing.”

He emphasized that negotiations with the United States are impossible, stating that it is not possible to sit with them in trust and confidence to reach any agreement.

He continued:

“Over the past few decades, when we began using nuclear energy for treating people, agriculture, industry, and other domestic purposes, Iran was subjected to immense pressure. They asked us to stop this work, but we did not and will not surrender. In this matter and in any other, we have not and will not succumb to pressure.”

Khamenei also pointed out:

“The American side insisted that Iran must not possess enrichment capabilities… What does that mean? It means turning this great achievement, for which the country has expended tremendous effort, into smoke…”

The UN Security Council voted on a draft resolution aimed at extending the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and major powers by six months, until April 18, 2026. The current agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), is set to expire on October 18.

However, the proposal—put forward by China and Russia—was rejected by nine of the Council’s 15 members, supported by only four, with two abstentions.

As a result of the vote, the Security Council will proceed with activating the “snapback mechanism” to reimpose sanctions on Tehran, which were approved last week. The sanctions are expected to take effect by midnight Saturday/Sunday GMT.
