U.S. Secretary of War Summons Hundreds of Generals for Urgent Meeting.

U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has summoned hundreds of generals and admirals to an emergency and exceptional meeting next week in Virginia, without providing a clear reason.

The meeting follows a series of dismissals of senior military leaders this year under President Donald Trump’s administration, sparking concern and confusion, according to The Washington Post.

Sources cited by the newspaper said the directive for the meeting—scheduled to take place at a base in Quantico, Virginia, next week—was issued this week and includes nearly all senior military commanders worldwide. The move comes amid fears of a possible government shutdown and after the Department of War announced a broad restructuring plan for top leadership.

Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell confirmed to the paper that Hegseth “will address senior military leaders early next week,” without offering further details. He clarified that the meeting will be held Tuesday in Quantico.

The paper noted that the U.S. military has around 800 generals and admirals stationed across the United States and in various global deployments. The new directive applies to all officers with the rank of brigadier general or higher—or their naval equivalents—who hold command positions, along with senior non-commissioned advisers.

The Washington Post also reported that among those invited are commanders in conflict zones and senior military leaders from Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific region. Administrative officers are not included in the directive.
