Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed that the production of nuclear weapons is forbidden in Iran by a religious decree (fatwa) issued by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
During his meeting on Wednesday with Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter, Pezeshkian stated:
"The Islamic Republic of Iran considers, according to the fatwa of the Supreme Leader, that manufacturing nuclear weapons is religiously prohibited."
Pezeshkian reiterated Iran’s stance that it does not seek to produce nuclear weapons, describing the reimposition of sanctions on his country as "unjust and illegal."
In his speech before the United Nations General Assembly in New York, he declared:
"I once again announce from this platform that Iran has never sought and will never seek to possess nuclear weapons."
He also pointed out that:
"The European Union aligned itself with the American attempt to pressure Tehran and reinstate sanctions that had been lifted under the 2015 nuclear agreement."
Pezeshkian emphasized:
"The Iranian people, as the oldest continuous civilization in the world, have always stood firm in the face of historical storms and have repeatedly proven that they do not yield to aggressors."
He added:
"In the recent 12-day defense, the Iranian people, through unity and faith, thwarted the enemies’ calculations. Despite the harshest sanctions and psychological pressures, the entire nation stood alongside its armed forces."
He affirmed that:
"Iran appreciates the support and solidarity shown by nations, peoples, and international organizations in this path. In contrast, the Zionist entity, with its expansionist and aggressive plans, threatens not only the region but the entire world, spreading domination and apartheid instead of peace."
President Pezeshkian stated that:
"Tehran envisions a clear and hopeful future for the region—one based on collective cooperation, shared security, sustainable development, economic justice, environmental protection, preservation of human dignity, and respect for national sovereignty. A vision rooted in genuine and lasting peace, not one imposed by force."
Separately, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said yesterday that negotiations with the United States would not serve Iran’s interests and would lead to a dead end, stressing that Iran will not surrender to pressure regarding uranium enrichment.
He reiterated Iran’s longstanding official position that the country does not need nuclear weapons and has no intention of producing them.
