The Russian company Rosatom announced that Moscow and Tehran have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in building small nuclear power plants in Iran.
A statement issued by the Russian company noted:
"The memorandum of understanding was signed by the heads of both delegations, outlining concrete steps to implement this strategic project in Iran."
The signing took place during a visit by Mohammad Eslami, head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, to Moscow, where he held a meeting with Rosatom Director Alexey Likhachev.
The statement added that:
"Likhachev and Eslami discussed the progress of ongoing projects between the two countries, as well as the future agenda for cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy."
It also clarified that:
"Both sides reviewed updates on existing projects and outlined the framework for future collaboration in the peaceful application of nuclear energy."
Tomorrow, Moscow will host the opening of the international Atomic Week forum, with participation from top experts to discuss the latest developments in peaceful nuclear energy and its industrial and medical applications.
