U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters that Qatar is a major ally of the United States.
He added, “Something must be done about Hamas, but Israel should proceed with caution.”
Earlier last week, Trump stated that he was “not happy” about the Israeli airstrike on Qatar that took place on Tuesday, targeting a meeting of Hamas leaders.
In previous remarks, Trump said the Israeli attack on Qatar was a decision made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
On his platform, Truth Social, Trump clarified that “the attack on Qatar was Netanyahu’s decision, and I had no involvement.”
He explained that “the U.S. military informed our administration today that Israel is striking Hamas in the Qatari capital.”
He continued, “I instructed Secretary of State Marco Rubio to finalize the defense cooperation agreement with Qatar.”
Trump noted that “the unfortunate attack on Doha could, in my view, be an opportunity for peace.”
He added that he had “sent envoy Steve Witkoff to notify the Qataris of the imminent strike, but it was too late to stop it.”
He emphasized that he assured the Qataris “such an incident will not happen again on their soil.”
He concluded by reiterating that “the unfortunate attack on Doha could, in my view, be an opportunity for peace.”
