Under the patronage of Prime Minister Mr. Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani, the Ministry of Migration and Displacement, in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), held the Global Compact for Migration Conference under the slogan “Towards Comprehensive and Sustainable Migration Governance” in central Baghdad. The event was attended by the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Iraq, Dr. Mohammed Al-Hassan, along with ambassadors, international organizations, and prominent political, cultural, and societal figures.
In her speech during the conference, Minister Evan Faeq Jabro affirmed “Iraq’s commitment to the principles and objectives of the Global Compact for Migration and its dedication to strengthening effective partnerships with the private sector to support sustainable integration and the stability of returnees from abroad.”
She added that “the conference aims to review national achievements and chart a roadmap for the upcoming phase, in preparation for the International Migration Review Forum next year,” emphasizing that “the private sector is a key pillar in empowering returnees through productive and service-oriented projects that contribute to creating a supportive environment for stability and sustainable development.”
Minister Jabro renewed her call to “transform the conference into a genuine opportunity to enhance cooperation between the government, the private sector, and international partners to build a more stable and prosperous future for returnees, their families, and Iraq as a whole.”
