Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani is preparing to meet with Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer this week as part of U.S.-mediated talks aimed at exploring ways to de-escalate tensions in southern Syria.
According to Israel’s public broadcasting authority, the meeting is a continuation of previous rounds of consultations focused on reaching field-level understandings that reduce conflict and enhance prospects for security arrangements in the region.
It’s worth noting that Shibani previously met with an Israeli delegation on August 20 in Paris, where discussions centered on issues related to southern Syria and efforts to promote regional stability.
That meeting resulted in an agreement to intensify efforts to reduce escalation, avoid interference in Syria’s internal affairs, and support understandings that contribute to stability and monitoring of the ceasefire in Sweida province. The agreement also included reactivating the 1974 disengagement accord concerning the separation of forces.
