The Ministry of Agriculture revealed on Friday its special measures to limit the spread of the narcotic Datura plant, confirming that it has formed security teams for this purpose.
According to the official news agency, Hussam Majid Katouf, Director of the Environment Department in the Planning and Follow-up Directorate at the Ministry of Agriculture, stated:
“The Ministry of Agriculture receives information about the spread of the narcotic Datura plant through reports submitted to the security agencies,” noting that “security forces form teams to follow up on these reports by documenting, seizing, and destroying areas where the plant is found.”
He added that “security agencies send samples of the plant and its locations to the Ministry of Agriculture so it can be included in the plans to combat it through the Plant Protection Directorate,” pointing out that “the narcotic Datura plant is a perennial species and resistant to the hot and dry climate that prevails in the country.”
