The Iraqi Embassy in Washington confirmed on Wednesday that Iraq is not subject to the policy of any country.
In a statement, the embassy said:
"With reference to the remarks made by the spokesperson of the U.S. State Department during her recent press conference, we affirm that Iraq is a fully sovereign state. It is entitled to conclude agreements and memoranda of understanding in accordance with the provisions of its constitution and national laws, and in a manner that aligns with its supreme interests."
The statement added:
"Iraq enjoys friendly and cooperative relations with a large number of countries around the world, including neighboring countries, the United States of America, and other friendly nations. It is keen to build these relationships on the basis of mutual respect and shared interests," emphasizing that "Iraq is not subject to the policy of any country."
It further noted:
"Iraq’s decisions stem from its independent national will. In this context, the recently signed security agreement with the Iranian side falls within the framework of bilateral cooperation to maintain security and control the shared borders in a way that ensures the stability and security of both countries and serves the security of the region as a whole."
