A White House official announced on Monday that U.S. President Donald Trump has issued an executive order extending the tariff grace period with China for an additional 90 days. The decision came just hours before U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods were set to return to higher levels.
Trump signed the executive order to delay the implementation of increased tariffs until mid-November, shortly after giving a noncommittal response to reporters when asked whether he intended to maintain the lower tariff rates.
On Sunday, the U.S. president urged Beijing to quadruple its purchases of American soybeans, though it remains unclear whether China agreed to the request.
