Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani praised the removal of Iraq’s name from the annual United Nations report concerning violations of children's rights, attributing it to the tangible progress achieved in this area.
A statement from Al-Sudani’s office noted that he commended “the sincere efforts of the relevant state departments in the Ministries of Labor and Social Affairs and Foreign Affairs in ensuring the protection of children and preventing violations, in line with the government’s measures to safeguard this segment internationally.”
According to Al-Sudani, these efforts “resulted in the recommendation within the UN Secretary-General’s report to remove Iraq’s name from the upcoming UN report on child protection, following its significant progress in this field and its success in implementing legal measures to prevent violations against children, as recognized by the United Nations.”
Al-Sudani also emphasized in the statement “the importance of this occasion serving as an added motivation for the continued efforts of the relevant state institutions in caring for children, and in addressing past violations and indicators, reaffirming Iraq’s standing in international forums, and working toward establishing a healthy environment for children that ensures proper upbringing, legal protection, and advancement of both formal and informal societal frameworks for childhood care.”
