U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday morning, kicking off his regional tour, which also includes the UAE and Qatar.
According to the U.S. State Department, the scheduled meetings will focus on regional security, defense, energy, investment, and ongoing cooperation to address common challenges.
Before landing in Riyadh, Trump described his visit to Saudi Arabia, followed by the UAE and Qatar, as a historic trip.
A potential high-level meeting
On Monday, British newspaper The Times speculated that Trump may meet Syrian President Ahmad Shar’a in Saudi Arabia, in a gathering that could also include Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.
Summit in Riyadh
The Saudi capital, Riyadh, is hosting a major summit, bringing together Trump and the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations.
