The Lebanese Supreme Defense Council has issued a warning to Hamas, cautioning the group against carrying out any activities that could undermine Lebanon’s sovereignty and national security.
In an official statement, the council declared, "After reviewing the latest developments and their implications at all levels, the Supreme Defense Council has recommended the following to the Cabinet: Hamas is warned against using Lebanese territory for any actions that compromise Lebanon’s national security. The strictest measures and necessary actions will be taken to put an end to any violation of Lebanese sovereignty."
The statement stressed the importance of preventing Hamas or any other factions from destabilizing Lebanon’s security and national stability.
It further noted that President Joseph Aoun emphasized the significance of maintaining security and asserting state authority over Lebanese territories.
The council also underscored the need to prevent Lebanon from becoming a platform for instability while acknowledging the importance of the Palestinian cause —but without dragging Lebanon into unnecessary wars or exposing it to risk.
Additionally, the statement conveyed remarks from Lebanon’s Prime Minister, who reiterated the need to hand over illegal weapons and prevent Hamas or other factions from disrupting national security.
He concluded by stating that "the safety of Lebanese territory is above all considerations."
