The Iranian news agency Tasnim reported on Saturday a significant explosion at the Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas, southern Iran, with the blast occurring in offices affiliated with the port.
According to a Tasnim correspondent, a fuel tank at Shahid Rajaee Port exploded for an unknown reason. Rapid response teams were immediately dispatched to the area.
Activities at the port have been suspended to allow security and relief forces to quickly manage the situation. Precise details regarding the number of casualties are yet to be determined. However, the intensity of the explosion caused extensive damage, according to the correspondent.
Local media confirmed the explosion’s force was so great that it shook the ground, with its sound heard in nearby cities. The blast also shattered windows of buildings several kilometers away from the port.
The Director-General of Crisis Management in Hormozgan Province, to which Bandar Abbas belongs, stated that the cause of the incident remains unknown.
