The UK announced on Thursday that it has lifted the freezing of assets imposed on Syria's Ministries of Defense and Interior, as well as several intelligence agencies.
This decision comes as the West re-evaluates its approach to Syria following the ousting of President Bashar al-Assad by opposition forces in December, after a civil war that lasted more than 13 years.
The British government revealed that the entities removed from the sanctions list are no longer subject to asset freezes. The government stated, "We have decided to lift certain sanctions on Syria as part of our commitment to assist the Syrian people in rebuilding the country and its economy."
It added, "We will continue to monitor the performance of the transitional authorities in Syria and judge actions, not words."
Last month, several European Union countries also decided to suspend sanctions on Syria, which previously targeted key economic sectors.
