Pope Francis Writes to the Salesians and Donates Ambulances to Ukraine.

Pope Francis encouraged participants in the 29th General Chapter of the Salesian Congregation to listen to the Holy Spirit and embrace synodal discernment.

In a message to the chapter, held from February 16 to April 12, the Holy Father apologized for being unable to meet with those gathered, as he is recovering at his Vatican residence from severe respiratory inflammation after spending approximately 40 days in Rome's Gemelli University Hospital.

In his letter, the Supreme Pontiff noted that the chapter's theme, "Salesian Zeal for Christ and Self-Giving to the Youth," reflects two beautiful qualities: zeal and self-giving. He emphasized that although the challenges facing the world have evolved since the time of Saint John Bosco, the founder of the Salesian Congregation, faith and zeal remain unchanged.

Pope Francis added that new gifts, such as cultural diversity, nourish faith and zeal today. He concluded his message by thanking the Salesians for the good they spread worldwide and urging them to persevere in their work.

Papal Hope for Ukraine

In another context, the Vatican's charity department announced that Pope Francis had decided to donate four ambulances to Ukraine, which has endured a devastating war for three years. This initiative coincides with Easter, as Jesus opens doors to life that were closed due to war.

This donation aligns with the Jubilee of Hope 2025, themed "Pilgrims of Hope." The Pope aims for this act to serve as a sign of hope, drawing from his decree on the Jubilee, which states, "Hope does not disappoint." He emphasized that, "The first sign of hope is translated through peace in the world, once again immersed in the tragedies of war... Peace must challenge everyone and compel them to pursue concrete programs."

Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, head of the charity department, embarks on his tenth trip to Ukraine to deliver the ambulances equipped with mechanisms and tools aimed at saving lives. These vehicles will be used in conflict zones. Krajewski also visits Ukraine to support those trapped in the conflict, pray for them, and convey the Pope's closeness to them.

It is noteworthy that the Supreme Pontiff consistently prays for Ukraine and countries affected by wars, such as Palestine, Israel, Myanmar, the Kivu region in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Sudan.
