Turkish Foreign Minister Arrives in Baghdad.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan arrived in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, on Sunday for an official visit.

Fidan is expected to meet with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and other officials to discuss bilateral issues and relations. Fidan previously visited Iraq in August 2023, where he had comprehensive and intensive meetings with officials in Baghdad, including leaders of the Coordination Framework blocs, and then visited Erbil to discuss various outstanding issues between the two countries, particularly security matters.

Sources revealed that Fidan's visit to Iraq emphasizes the need for intelligence coordination between Iraq and Turkey to confront the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). Political analyst Gok Oglo stressed the importance of this coordination, stating that Fidan's visit to Iraq will not be limited to Baghdad but may also include Erbil, as Turkey aims to launch a comprehensive war against the PKK in northern Syria and seeks coordination with Baghdad first and then Erbil.

Oglo concluded that the visit might include opening several files in addition to intelligence coordination, such as the Syria file and the development road, as well as following up on the implementation of the agreements signed between the two countries during Fidan's last visit.

Fidan was part of the delegation accompanying President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his visit to Baghdad and then Erbil in April 2024. That visit witnessed the signing of 27 agreements and memorandums of understanding in various fields between Baghdad and Ankara, the most notable of which was the water agreement.
