The negotiating delegation of the Democratic Party held a meeting on Tuesday with its counterpart from the Patriotic Union in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region.
According to a correspondent from Shafaq News Agency, "This is the third meeting of its kind between the two sides, held at the headquarters of the Patriotic Union's political bureau in Erbil.
The meeting included discussions on reports prepared by both sides regarding visions for forming the new regional government.
This is the third meeting of its kind, with the first official meeting between the two main parties in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq held in Sulaymaniyah at the end of November following the parliamentary elections in October. The second meeting took place shortly after.
In their second meeting in Erbil, the two main parties agreed to form a committee to prepare reports on the new government's working mechanism, future visions, and each party's demands.
The results of the parliamentary elections in the region, held in October 2024, saw the Democratic Party winning first place with 39 seats, the Patriotic Union in second place with 23 seats, the New Generation in third place with 15 seats, the Kurdistan Islamic Union in fourth place with 7 seats, the Movement in fifth place with 4 seats, the Justice Group in sixth place with 3 seats, the People's Front in seventh place with 2 seats, the Change Movement in eighth place with 1 seat, and the Kurdistan Alliance in ninth place with 1 seat.
