Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani received Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto on Saturday.
During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance them in various fields, particularly in security, to achieve mutual benefits for both friendly countries.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani praised Italy's role in supporting Iraq through the international coalition and NATO mission, indicating Iraq's readiness to cooperate with friendly countries to stabilize the region, which has an impact on global security.
He emphasized the need for joint efforts to help Syrians manage their country's affairs without any interference that infringes on Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He explained that the Iraqi government is assessing the situation in Syria to make necessary decisions based on developments.
Minister Crosetto conveyed the greetings of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to Prime Minister Al-Sudani and expressed her anticipation of his visit to Italy. He affirmed Italy's desire to expand its relations with Iraq, based on the existing partnership and cooperation between the two countries, and its readiness to support regional stability. He also noted that Iraq is steadily regaining its role in the region.
