The Iraqi Embassy in Libya announced on Tuesday that Iraq has won the presidency of the Executive Council of the Arab Investment Company for the year 2025.
The acting charge d'affaires of the embassy, Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, stated, "In a prominent diplomatic step, Iraq succeeded in winning the presidency of the Arab Investment Company during the sixty-third session of the Arab Economic and Social Council held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, returning to this position after a 32-year absence," noting that "Iraq had not held the presidency of the company's council since 1992.
He clarified that "this achievement came through joint coordination between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Industry and as part of the priorities of the government program of the Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani. It also reflected the emphasis of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein on repositioning Iraq’s role in regional and international organizations, within the framework of multilateral diplomacy, strategic planning, and management pursued by the Iraqi Ministry of Industry, and through productive diplomacy efforts led by the Iraqi embassy in Tripoli under the temporary charge d'affaires, Dr. Ahmed Al-Sahhaf. He managed to secure crucial Libyan support for Iraq’s nomination by coordinating with the head of the Investment Authority in Libya, Dr. Abdelhakim Al-Fitouri, who cast Libya's vote for Iraq, which was necessary to secure the victory.
He noted that "Iraq will host the meetings of the company's Executive Council in 2025 in Baghdad, a step aimed at enhancing Arab cooperation in the fields of industry and infrastructure and cementing Iraq's position as a pivotal industrial center."
