After the Darkness of War... The Spirit of Christmas Lights Up the Streets of Lebanon.
The joy has returned to the streets of Lebanon following the recent devastating war. Cities and towns have shed the cloak of sorrow and fear for their future, making way for the lights and vibrancy of Christmas. Trees, nativity scenes, and music have painted the features of a holiday that never abandons the Land of the Cedars, despite much caution due to the tense situation in the southern part of the country and neighboring states.
Throughout Lebanon, Christmas trees have risen to light up hearts that have been in darkness for more than two months of violence and destruction. From the mixed-sect town of Naameh (Chouf District, Mount Lebanon), Bishop Paul Matar blessed the lighting of the Christmas tree in the presence of residents and locals. Attendees affirmed their "determination to live freely despite the difficulties," hoping for "peace to come with the remembrance of the birth of Lord Jesus.
In his speech, Matar said, "We remember this holiday, the birth of Lord Jesus, who came to this world as a messenger of peace, unity, and reconciliation among different peoples." He wished for "a blessed holiday for all nation.
