A statement from the Foreign Ministry said, "Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein had a phone call with his Australian counterpart Penny Wong." The statement added that "the call covered the developments in Syria, where Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein presented Iraq's perspective on the current events there and discussed regional and international proposals for managing the Syrian crisis.
On the bilateral front, the two sides touched on the relations between the two countries, with a focus on the case of the Australian citizen convicted in Iraq on embezzlement charges. The minister listened to the "Australian perspective on the matter, and the role that the Iraqi Foreign Ministry could play in this regard was discussed.
