President-elect Donald Trump announced that former TV news anchor Kari Lake will serve as the new director of the federally funded "Voice of America" radio station.
Trump stated, "Lake will be appointed as the next head of the agency responsible for Voice of America to ensure the fair and accurate broadcasting of American values of freedom and liberalism worldwide, unlike the lies spread by fake news media.
He added, referring to the state that elected Trump in November but voted for President Biden in 2020, "Kari was a beloved news anchor in Arizona, which supported me by a record margin for over 20 years.
Lake, a strong Trump supporter, ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate in Arizona last month. She was also a Republican gubernatorial candidate but lost in 2022 and unsuccessfully challenged the results. Lake had a 30-year media career in Arizona before turning to politics.
