The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced on Wednesday that Saudi Arabia has won the bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup during an extraordinary general assembly meeting held virtually.
Saudi Arabia will become the first country in history to independently host the largest edition of the World Cup, which will feature 48 national teams across five cities, following the new tournament format approved by FIFA earlier.
Saudi Arabia officially submitted its bid to host this edition of the World Cup last July under the slogan "Together We Grow." The bid revealed the country's ambitious plans to host this major football tournament by staging matches in 15 stadiums across five host cities: Riyadh, Jeddah, Khobar, Abha, and Neom, along with ten other hosting locations.
