Russian President Vladimir Putin said in statements published today, Sunday, that Moscow will implement "a series of responses" if the United States and its NATO allies allow Ukraine to launch strikes with Western long-range weapons inside Russia.
Putin added to state television correspondent Pavel Zarubin in remarks in a video posted on Zarubin's Telegram account that the Russian Ministry of Defense "is considering how to respond to potential strikes with long-range weapons inside Russia and will provide a range of responses.
Putin said, "We will have to respond to that in the appropriate manner, but it is too early to talk about how, when, and exactly where the response will be." The Russian president added, "Of course, the Ministry of Defense is studying this matter and will propose different responses.
Putin expressed hope that his warnings about the consequences of allowing strikes deep into Russia had been heard by the West. He continued, "They didn't tell me anything about this, but I hope they heard the warnings, because we will also have to make decisions regarding this matter."
In September, the Russian president indicated that if such a decision were made, it would mean direct involvement of NATO countries, the United States, and European countries in the war in Ukraine, warning that Russia would make decisions based on threats.
